Anti-Virus Sofware

Warning - No anti-virus application is 100% effective and a freshly installed anti-virus can disrupt some programs until it learns your usage habits. It is also important to remember that multiple anti-virus applications running simultaneously can greatly impact system performance and internet connection speed. An anti-virus is only as good as it last update and expired programs can fail to detect viruses, disrupt services running on your computer, or even block internet access.

 

  • GRISoft AVG - Currently there are both free and and paid for versions.
  • Alwil Software AVAST - (Free) An easy to use, comprehensive antivirus program.
  • Avira AntiVir - (Free) A comprehesive antivirus solution.
  • Trend Micro Housecall - (Free) Housecall is an online comprehensive virus tool that will scan your computer for viruses and adware/spyware. This tool is run from the website and can take quite a long time to download and run.
  • Trend Micro SysClean - (Free) Formerly known as Trend Micro System Cleaner (TSC), this a one time run extremely comprehensive malware and virus removal tool. For instructions click here.
  • ClamWin - (Free) ClamWin is a free open source anti-virus solution for Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP.
  • Panda ActiveScan - (Free) This is a online virus scan that you can run on your computer. There is also a paid-for version that runs on your computer like other anti-virus products.
